California is burning
Last week I got drunk and stole a book of matches
I am convinced these two
are somehow related
The tantrum child in the big house
holds a red button in one hand and
a blue bird in the other
I slept eleven hours today and did not dream
The ocean waters grow hotter and higher
This humid October, I
have become a nighttime creature
who misses drinking coffee in the morning
I feel like a peach left rotting on
the kitchen counter
Still so much like a child
California is on fire
I swear I hear the vineyards screaming
