September

September, full of beauty and pain —
Shades of amber and fiery gold,
leaves stand still but tall buildings fall.
I look outside my window, it’s been sixteen years and
nothing much has changed.
It’s the ninth day of September —
Just another birthday came.
Time is running out of this
special day that falls,
longing for the days of young.
So many memories recalled,
smiling faces, whimsical fantasies,
virgin eyes, red bicycles with streamer’s
so long, you can touch the sky,
soul train lines and candles dancing
right before my very eyes.
September, full of beauty and pain —
Shades of amber and fiery gold,
leaves stand still but tall buildings fall.
I look outside my window and
nothing much has changed.
Another day blood covers the leaves,
another casket lying in the breeze,
with our first born all tattered and torn.
Another season of police killing us,
No good reason for us, killing us.
another day of us, marching for us.
I look outside my window, it’s been sixteen years and
nothing much has changed,
It’s the ninth day of September —
It should have been my special day.
instead, I watched the news and
sat in dismay, as the anchorman said
thirteen souls, were taken by guns today.
Cars are the new bombs of the day and
we are back to living in fear,
everyday another travesty to bear.
September, full of beauty and pain —,
Shades of amber and fiery gold,
leaves stand still but tall buildings fall.
I look outside my window, it’s been sixteen years and
nothing much has changed.
It’s the ninth day of September —
Just another birthday is all.
